8 Reasons You'll Love Famous Sharron (Not that you need them)

In the suburbs of Perth there lives a woman; a woman like no other. Her fame is something to be inspired by and her use of glitter and colourful outfits something to be flat out jealous of. I don’t even need to say the name, you know who I’m talking about already right? Famous, colourful, glamorous, funny and…FAMOUS. If you haven’t been living under a big ol’ queer rock lately then you’ll have heard of the new TV show Orange is the New Black. It’s a show that focuses on the story of Piper, a middle class blondie who is doing jail time for a crime she committed years ago with ex girlfriend Alex. Lots of queers…jammed into one space…crazy eyes…sexual frustration…PIE… Let’s just say It’s well worth the watch; a comedy with meaning. The XX in Perth City

As the whispered chatter died down, everyone suddenly became still in anticipation for The XX to infect the stage at Metro City, April 2. Images of the arm flailing bass player from the previous band will never be forgotten but were well in the back of everyone’s mind by this point (What was the name of the band anyway. I know I sound old but I couldn’t here a word of what they were saying). The veiling of the equipment and instruments had already taken place showing two giant clear X’s displayed at centre stage. As the iconic sound of The XX hit the crowd in the form of the song ‘Try’ everyone went into excitement overload only to realise it was but a mere sound check. And to this the girl standing behind me responded, “Oh…haha, I didn’t think I recognised the song.” …….*ULTIMATE FACE PALM. Wednesday’s ‘Where Are They Now’ Post – Leisha Hailey

So here I am trying to think of interesting individuals to talk about and the name Leisha Hailey comes to mind. Anyone who is a fan of the show The L Word will know exactly who I am talking about. Leisha Hailey played Alice Pieszecki in the show, a funny, quirky, usually loud, bisexual freelance writer, living in Los Angeles. It is her most well known role to date with the show itself a huge success in the queer community world-wide. Not only did it contain an all female lead cast, but also an all queer identified cast. I can probably count the amount of times this has happened on one hand, which is saying something…”WATCH IT.” Since then, Hailey has appeared in a couple of CSI episodes, played the voice of Lily on ‘American Dad’ and more memorably Emily Weaver in the 2011 movie ‘Fertile Ground‘ just to name a few. Friday's Fashion Post – Bow Tie Mania!

So what’s better than a bow tie? A Superman bow tie of course! Or a Batman one for that matter. My friend recently bought me a comic bow tie and so naturally, as a new lover of this item of clothing, I jumped at my first chance to where it out. My event of choice; my local Pride Parade! There’s nothing that says Queer than a little bit of bow tie love! People seemed to loved them, and at one point a stranger even commented on how he loved the costume (my friend wearing her superman bow tie, and I wearing my Batman). In short, they just just look so darn cute, and they are something just a little different to your average black bow tie. They were ordered online from a website called ‘Etsy’. Brett Barsky is an actor most well known for his role as Trevor in the 1994 short film ‘Trevor’. The film follows this young, closeted boy who dreams of nothing more than to be fabulous in a time when being ‘out and proud’ was not the reality it is today for a lot of people. If the title of this film rings a bell to you then here is probably why. The movie inspired what we now know today as the Trevor Project; a suicide prevention hotline for at risk LGBTQ youths in the United States. The creators of the film were astounded that when preparing to air the movie, there were no suicide prevention hotlines available to youths who might have been facing similar suicidal feelings as Trevor. Glee's Chris Colfer is a Talented Writer Aswell?!

Chris Colfer, better known for his golden globe winning role on Glee has proven his talents do not just remain on screen. Colfer has recently published a children’s book ‘The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell’ and I was more than excited to read it! This page turner had me living in my 10 year old body for a few days as I was engrossed in a fairy tale world. The story tells of 12 year old twins Alex and Conner who get lost in their grandmas story book. Forget the classic Disney versions of Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. Chris pulls inspiration from Hans Christian Anderson and the Grimm brothers. From the very beginning I fell in love with both characters, Alex the quiet and reserved girl who loves reading and Conner the typical class clown boy who has trouble staying awake in class.
