Fairday returned to Hyde Park this year as part of Fringe World 2015. This event gets better every year, with the ever popular dog show, live entertainment, food trucks and community info stalls for everyone to enjoy. Take a look at some photos from the event below.
If I had to say just one thing about Fringe’s Le Gateau Chocolat: I Heart Chocolat, it would be: go see it…Next year! That’s right folks, if you’re from Perth then unfortunately you’ve missed out. Be sure to be first in line for the show if it comes back though because after this years performance I’m sure the tickets will be selling fast. Le Gateau Chocolat may have left Perth, but I’m still hearing chatter about how amazing the show was. I made the last minute decision to buy a ticket for Friday’s opening night performance, despite it also being Perth Fringe World Festival’s opening night, and therefore packed! The line to get into De Parel Spiegeltent ran almost the length of Perth Cultural Centre’s Urban Orchard at 8:30pm for a 9pm start. The seats were soon filled, and the show began with quiete and polite introducions from the queen herself, offering what looked like maltesers from a large glass bowl. Perth Fringe is Finally here and in all my excitement I’ve compiled a list of of Top Queer Picks for 2015! I haven’t seen any of these shows before so this list is based purely off what I think looks and sounds a) entertaining b) super queer. Get excited! In the suburbs of Perth there lives a woman; a woman like no other. Her fame is something to be inspired by and her use of glitter and colourful outfits something to be flat out jealous of. I don’t even need to say the name, you know who I’m talking about already right? Famous, colourful, glamorous, funny and…FAMOUS. Oh what the heck, it makes me feel a little closer to fame every time I say it; it’s FAMOUS SHARRON. I finally had the opportunity to see a Famous Sharron show on Sunday night at Fringe World (Famous SHARRON – The Fame Game). I have to say, she definitely made me LOL throughout the whole show with her quick wit, performance routines and interviews. It’s definitely something you need to see at some stage in your life. ‘Dickens’ Women’ was created for the 1989 Edinburgh Festival by Miriam Margolyes and Sonja Fraser. It has since traveled internationally throughout six countries and was nominated in 1992 for the prestigious Olivier Award. As part of a worldwide celebration of 100 years of Charles Dickens, Margolyes will continue the tour throughout this year sharing carefully chosen characters to honour the man himself. As I entered His Majesty’s Theatre on Hay Street in Perth, I felt like the youngest person in the room with the rest of the attendees averaging around an estimated 55-60 years old, and all dressed up to the nines! Everyone settled down for the show to start, just a few minutes after 8pm and a man entered from stage right to sit at the grand piano placed to the side of the stage. John Martin would be Margolyes’ sole accompaniment this evening as he played a few pieces in a build up to Margolyes’ entrance. Miriam Margolyes is returning to Australia this year to perform her one woman show: Dicken’s Women. You may recognise her from works such as James and the Giant Peach, Wicked (on Broadway) or even Harry Potter (Professor Sprout) among many voice roles throughout her career. She’s just finished filming Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries in Melbourne and is now ready to tribute Charles Dickens 200th bithday with her show. “I’m a huge fan of his works, and I don’t understand why people everywhere aren’t. To me he’s just the greatest there is,” Margolyes said. “I love the characters, I love the story, I love the prose, and I dedicate my whole life really to getting people to understand how wonderful he is. And the show Dickens’ Women is a way of doing that.” In this original stage show, Margolyes plays a total of 23 characters from Dicken’s novels, both men and woman and at times gives insight to the writer himself.
